News 5 April 2019
This year's conference of European Media Art Festival is called "EMAF Talks". The reason: Our visitors can expect more discussion rounds this year that combine the expertise of scientists with that of artists. The curators Alfred Rotert and Sabine Maria Schmidt want to build a bridge between theory and practice.
This year's festival theme "WILD GRAMMAR" also plays a major role in the "EMAF Talks" section. In recent years, the culture of speaking has undergone major technological and socio-political changes. The changing world is being propagated as a destabilized permanent crisis. Anti-democratic politicians have made the lie presentable as a staged rhetorical repetition.
But not only social media such as twitter, facebook or youtube have become battlefields of language. Speaking also seems to have become wild and raw in other places - wild grammar.
The themes of "EMAF Talks" revolve around manipulations and right-wing populisms on the Internet, technological language definitions and the longing for poetry in language.
In addition to discussions with artists represented in the EMAF exhibition, the lecture by art and film critic Michael Huebl on the new film "Bildbuch" by Jean-Luc Godard, which is shown in the EMAF's film programme, also creates intersections.
EMAF Talks will take place on two days of the festival, on Friday 26 April and Saturday 27 April.

- Inke Arns: The Alt-Right Complex – On right-wing populism on the web

- Michael Huebl: Colourful dogs dance before the black hole
